Ambassadors in Action
We saw a missing piece in the STEM education shown to younger girls. By creating geoscience lesson plans and badges, this program will encourage girl scouts to explore this area of science and, thus create knowledge of geosciences in the younger female population.
San AntonGEO engaged San Antonio K-12 and college classrooms by creating an interactive website tour of geosciences in the city.
I engaged 8th grader from the island of Martinique by making a presentation to introduce geosciences as well as geoheritage. These students who are from an area with limited resources where enthusiastic to participate in this discussion. I wanted them to realize that one's background does not define one's future.
We aim to expose the Austin community (especially students and educators) to the diverse range of opportunities and careers within the geosciences through the Texas Memorial Museum. By implementing QR based videos featuring geoscientists in a variety of careers, this program will allow visitors to see actual scientists who investigate topics present in the museum and what opportunities are available to follow similar career paths...
Our video leverages the personal and professional experiences of three geoscience graduate students - Nicole Gonzalez, Kristian Chan, and Solveig Schilling- spanning various geoscience subfields, to inspire high school students to pursue a geoscience major and career.
